Becoming a Guardian of Story

Adoption doesn’t erase your child’s beginning.
It adds to it.
You will become the keeper of their story. The guardian of their truth. The person who helps them make sense of how they came to be sealed into your family—and what that means eternally and emotionally.
This is sacred work.

Your child will want to know about their birth family, about the day they were born, about why they were placed. Your job is not to shield them from pain—it’s to walk with them through it. To make space for it. To show them that they were never a mistake.
Speak gently. Speak truthfully. Speak in a way that says, “You are loved from every angle of this story.”
Don’t wait until they’re older. Begin now. Begin with bedtime stories. With framed photos. With words like birth mom, first family, placed in love.
You are not just raising a child. You are raising a soul. And souls need stories.
Reflection Prompt
What parts of your child’s story feel hard to tell—and why?
How will you prepare to speak truth with compassion and confidence?
What do you hope your child will always know about how they came to you?
Optional Devotional Thought
“I will give them one heart, and one way.” – Jeremiah 32:39
One story. One love. One family—made sacred in truth.
