Eternal Family Adoptions:
An Adoption Journey for LDS Families

Lesson 8

Temple Sealing & Post-Placement Grace

After the placement, a quiet shift happens.

You’re no longer waiting—you’re parenting. However, the final steps still remain: post-placement visits, legal finalization, and eventually, the sealing ordinance. These can feel like formalities, but they carry deep spiritual weight.

The temple sealing is not a celebration of ownership—it’s a confirmation of eternal belonging. It’s a covenant. And your child, though young, is part of that sacred promise.

But don’t overlook the in-between.

In the months following placement, grief can resurface. Not just for the birth mother, but for you. For everything that led you here. You might feel tired, unsure, or even unworthy. That’s okay. Parenting through adoption is full of paradox—joy braided with loss, peace braided with questions.

This is when grace matters most. Grace for yourself. Grace for the process. Grace for the birth family. Grace for the child whose story is still unfolding.

The sealing will happen. But your family is already sacred.

Reflection Prompt

What does “sealing” mean to you, spiritually and emotionally?

What fears or expectations do you carry into this next phase?

What rhythms of grace do you want to build into your family from the beginning?

Optional Devotional Thought

“And it came to pass that they were no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens… and of the household of God.” – Ephesians 2:19

Your family is not fragile. It is eternal.
